GARDEN CENTER GENERAL MANAGER

Nature’s Edge Garden Center in Bemidji, Minnesota is seeking to hire a Garden Center General Manager. This position would oversee all garden center operations including hiring, scheduling, training and oversight of garden center staff, retailing annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, plant care products and garden décor. This is a full time, year around, salaried position.
Nature’s Edge Garden Center is Bemidji’s premier garden center and landscaping services provider. We have been in operation since 2007. Our continued growth and forecasts for continued expansion and sales will allow for the addition of a general manager.
The ideal candidate would have a background in business and retail operations, experience in a leadership position and have an understanding of budgeting, inventory management and customer service. Plant knowledge or garden center experience is preferred but not necessary as we are seeking someone who knows how to manage a business first – we can teach the right candidate about the plant side of the business.
The general manager would work alongside onsite owners, a landscape project manager and a nursery sales leader daily. The position would report to owners and supervise all garden center staff. The general manager would be required to work 50+ hour weeks during our peak seasons (April, May and June) and work alternating weekends most of the calendar year. The general manager must be able to regularly lift items up to fifty pounds and be able to be on their feet for eight hours or more a day. The manager’s job duties would require them to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Base pay for the position is $40,000 yearly with incentive bonuses available. The ideal candidate could expect to make in excess of $50,000 per year. Benefits include a simple IRA with 3% company match, flexible scheduling, a fun work environment and opportunities for growth.
Please send your resume and letter of interest to Tyler Olson at negc@paulbunyan.net. Applications are due January 17, 2020. We anticipate interviewing candidates the following week and selecting our new manager to begin employment mid to late February 2020.
